Compliance Advisory

What we offer

We review your existing import/export processes for compliance and report both risks and savings opportunities.

Scope

  • HS code audit and correction
  • Rules of origin and preferential trade analysis
  • Retrospective duty refund opportunities
  • Compliance training

What we look at

Compliance usually comes up once there is a problem. Yet most of the cost could have been avoided by a check made beforehand. What we review:

  • HS code accuracy — do current declarations match the product
  • Origin rules — is the preferential trade advantage being used
  • Permits and control certificates — anything missing for the product group
  • Regime choice — would bonded or inward processing suit better
  • Sanctions and export control — screening of counterparty and product

Retrospective refunds

Duty overpaid through a wrong HS code or an unused origin advantage can be reclaimed within the statutory time limits. A review of past declarations often produces a direct saving.

The same review protects in the other direction: an under-declaration found later brings a penalty, and correcting it yourself is always cheaper.

When the rules change

The tariff schedule, additional duty decisions and trade measures move during the year. We monitor your product groups and flag the changes that affect you before they take effect — finding out after the cargo has sailed is expensive.

Training

On request we run practical sessions for your import, export and purchasing teams using your own product groups. Not a general regulatory presentation — a working session on your actual declarations.

FAQ

  • What is binding tariff information?

A ruling in which the customs authority determines a product's tariff code in advance and on a binding basis. It removes the risk of penalties arising later from a classification dispute.

  • What is the inward processing regime for?

It allows inputs used in manufacturing goods for export to be imported without paying duty. Unlike bonded warehousing, this regime permits manufacturing and processing of the goods.

  • How should legislative changes be tracked?

Tariffs, quotas and trade policy measures affecting a product group can change during the year. Current status should be confirmed before each shipment so changes reach the operation in time.
