Logistics for project cargo
Project cargo is not a scheduled service scaled up. Every project arrives with its own constraints and the solution is built from zero: relocating a complete factory, the equipment for a power plant, the commissioning material for a facility.
What makes it hard
- Nothing repeats. The plan that worked last time may not apply now; each project needs its own survey.
- The chain is multimodal. Sea, road, rail and sometimes barge combine in one movement, and transhipment points are where risk concentrates.
- There are many stakeholders. Manufacturer, customs, port, carrier, erection team and client all hang on the same calendar.
- The critical path can rest on one piece. A single main component can push the whole project.
How we set it up
End-to-end project management means one named owner. Whichever link of the chain has a problem, your counterpart does not change.
Engineering-led planning means the cargo survey, route survey and handling plan are prepared before the shipment, with alternatives defined for critical points.
In multimodal combinations, transhipment points are treated as the highest-risk locations and the handover of responsibility is written down at each one.
Practical notes
Insurance on project cargo should be set on the real replacement value of the equipment, not on the carrier’s liability limit. If the commissioning calendar is not planned alongside the shipment calendar, even equipment that arrives on time ends up waiting.
